Benefits of Lifting Weights

Benefits of Lifting Weights

1.  Weight Loss
Muscle burns a lot more energy than fat.  Increasing your muscle mass will also allow your body to burn more calories througout the day.  Weightlifting can give you a slimmer body with a firmer appearance, because weightlifting sheds fat tissues all while toning muscle tissues.

2.  Gain Strength
Women, you will NOT bulk up.  Researchers have found that women typically do not gain size from strength training because women do not have the levels of testosterone that men have.  Women have 10 to 30 times less of the hormones that cause muscle hypertrophy.  You will develop muscle tone & definition.  That is always a good thing.

3.  It Builds Strong Bones
Lifting weights also helps women build & maintain strong bones, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.  Weightlifting during teen and young adult years helps women's bones reach peack bone density.  Lifting weights by older women helps prevent the regular losses of bone  density that usually occur as women age.

4.  Be Happy
A harvard study found that 10 weeks of strength training reduced clinical depression symptoms with more success than standard counseling.  Women who lift weights regularly report feeling more confident and capable as a result of adding some weight training into their routine.  Improving your attitude and fighting depression are great reasons to pick up those weights!
